 Mariner's watches are specially designed and build with the sailor or yachtsman in mind. These watches must stand up to some of the harshest conditions of wind, sea, salt water, and perspiration. Typically a mariner's watch should be waterproof, and operate as a chronograph with one or more stop functions. Newer electronic mariner watches might have additional memory functions.

A mariner wristop computer has many features that a true Yachtsman would appreciate. A mariner's watch might have functions such as: a chronometer-accurate calendar, a dual time function, digital compass, barometer and sailing timer, and an adjustable countdown function.
